The Committee looked at other college plans, reviewed guidelines published by the American College Health Association, Department of Homeland Security, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Milton Board of Health, and the Department of Health and Human Services. We also attended presentations by the Milton Local Emergency Planning Committee, and United Educators.
A plan has been formulated for Curry College, which has three components:
1. General Emergency Framework, created to address decision-making and communication in a Pandemic or other possible emergency.
2. Health Response Framework, created to address issues specific to Pandemic.
3. Business Continuity Plan, which identified critical functions by department, and action items necessary now to keep them running in an emergency.

An Emergency Response Group has been named, composed of critical decision makers with identified back-ups for each of them, as follows:

In the event of a Pandemic Emergency, the group will meet in an identified location with access to both internal and external resources that will allow them to make informed decisions. Resources that will allow them communicate those decisions to the Curry community effectively will also be available in this location. The recently installed W.A.R.N. system was an independent initiative, unrelated to pandemic, but has been integrated into our planning.
Health Response Framework
Pre-epidemic activities (training for staff, faculty and students, purchasing of supplies, installation of hand sanitizer stations) have been identified that are in process now.
Protocols have been developed for each level of epidemic. A location for on-campus treatment has been identified, and purchasing of needed supplies has begun. Off-campus resources have also been identified to assist us in the event of an epidemic.
Business Continuity Plan
Each department has identified functions that are essential to the organization, and resources necessary to keep them running have also been identified. Budget dollars have been allocated for needed supplies, and purchasing has begun. Training has been recommended for developing redundancies in some areas. Secondary site processing for essential transactions has also been recommended (off-site website back-up, secondary site for computer system servers) and is in process. Generator installation to power essential systems in the event of a power outage has been budgeted and is in process.
Hopefully, the College will never experience a Pandemic. However, planning for this possible emergency has proven valuable in revealing needs for many types of emergencies. While the College cannot possibly predict all potential scenarios, building a solid framework from which to respond allows us to implement best practices should an emergency situation arise.
