Curry Community donates 16,019 pounds of canned food during drive
The Curry College community made a significant contribution in the fight against hunger during the Cans Across America 2007 canned food drive held on November 7. Sponsored by Curry Dining Services and Student Affairs, the Cans Across America drive at Curry was part of a national effort to set a new Guinness World Record for the most canned food donations raised during a single event in multiple locations across the United States. The current record is 221,028.85 pounds.
All of the food collected at Curry during the promotion was sent to The Greater Boston Food Bank, a member of America’s Second Harvest network. The Greater Boston Food Bank confirmed the official total for the amount of food donated by the Curry community - 16,019 pounds - exceeding the College's goal of collecting 10,000 pounds of food. In the 2006, Curry collected close to 8,000 pounds of food.
