Instructions to Students
- Please log into the Curry College Web Information System to determine your eligibility for Federal Work Study. You must have your User ID and PIN to access this information. Click on the Student and Financial Aid Tab and choose “Work-Study Employment Contract” option. If you are eligible for the Work-Study Program, the Employment Contract will display. Please print it out and follow directions for step 2 and 3 (below). If it does not display and you think you are eligible for this type of Financial Aid, please contact Student Financial Services, ext. 2146, for clarification.
- RETURNING STUDENTS:
If you are a returning student, and are returning to your Fall Semester Work-Study position, you will only need to complete the 2010 Student Work-Study Contract.
- NEW STUDENTS, OR RETURNING STUDENTS SEEKING NEW POSITIONS:
Print and complete the Student Employment Application. Reveiw the job listings. Come to the "Curry Hires" Job Fair on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 anytime betweem 11:00 and 2:30 in the Student Center Gym. Bring your Work-study Employment Contract, your Student Employment Application, and your class schedule with you. If you are unable to attend "Curry Hires", you may contact the job posting contact person directly to set up an appointment.
Once you have secured the position, have the Supervisor sign the Work-Study Contract, and bring it to the Human Resources Office now located at 55 Atherton, Garden Level along with the W-4 Tax Form (PDF), the I-9 Form (PDF) and two forms of Identification: 1) Picture ID and 2) either Birth Certificate or Social Security Card. We will return a copy of the completed Contract to your new supervisor, and forward for Payroll processing.

We are a very busy office with a great deal of student contact. A high level of confidentiality and discretion are mandatory. Much of the work is very detailed oriented involving general office procedures including filing, answering phones, and setting up folders. Basic computer skills needed including MS word and data entry onto spreadsheets. Fast paced, but informal working environment. Reliability is very important. Potential opportunity for training as a peer advisor, if interested. The hours are flexible between 8:30-4:30 but would like lunch time coverage.

Administrative Assistant to Writing Assessment Coordinator, Workstudy

Student will assist Coordinator with some simple statistical analysis, record-keeping, filing, and photocopying related to collecting and assessing student writing at Curry. Student may occasionally assist with setting up meetings, drafting reports, finding information, and other tasks related to the assessment project. Student should be available 5-8 hours/week, particularly on Mondays between 10 AM and 4 PM and/or Tue/Thurs 10 am -5 pm. Student must possess strong oral and written communication skills; must be reliable, organized, and attentive to details; sense of initiative and ability to work independently; comfortable with basic mathematical computation. Familiarity with Excel and Word strongly preferred.

Applied Technology Department

The Applied Technology Department is seeking student workers for approximately 10 hours per week. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with the creation and posting of news items and feature stories for the department web site, assisting students who utilize the lab space in the office suite, answering and transferring queries to appropriate department faculty, answering students queries, creating and modifying MS Office documents, working with department faculty on specialized projects and performing general office duties such as photocopying, faxing, and filing.
Ideally, the student should be an Information Technology major or minor or an Applied Computing minor but students in any major are welcome to apply.

The Athletic Department is seeking Curry Students who qualify for workstudy to be part of our game day operations team for Home football games. The job would consist of selling tickets from the ticket booth or other assigned area, gate security and selling merchandise. The hours are for every Home Football game. Day game hours would be 10:00AM -3:00PM; Night game hours would be 5:00PM - 10:00PM. You would be working outside in all weather conditions and must willing to work on Saturday's.

Sports Information Assistants normally work in the athletic communications office Monday - Friday during normal business hours (8:30 - 4:30). Assistants can set their own 2-4 hour morning or afternoon shifts on days when they do not have classes. Assistants will update web pages, compile game programs, and write content for athletic publications. Good writing skills are helpful, knowledge of a wide range of computer software programs helpful. Specific to but not limited to: Communication, sports management, English, web development, professional writing, journalism, public relations, creative writing, graphic design, majors.

Duties may include various event set ups, including sporting events as well as furniture moves, unloading orders and pick up and removal of trash. Position as office assistant in the Campus Office entails answering the telephone and receiving students who have meetings with the Director of Residence Life and Housing, Assistant Director of Residence Life and Housing and the Director of Student Involvement and Student Center. The student office assistant will also help with light filing, photocopying, mailings and other various projects. On-the-job training will be provided.
Student should have a professional demeanor, excellent communication skills, excellent computer skills and the ability to handle parent phone calls while maintaining confidentiality.

Office of the Dean of Faculty
Instructional Technology Services Office Assistant, Workstudy

The student will assist Curry's Instructional Technologist/Designer with conducting workshops and hold private training sessions for faculty on the use and application of hardware and software in the development of academic materials. This position requires solid working experience with digital imaging, audio/video editing, multimedia software, and related hardware. The position will assist faculty with multimedia technology, projects, presentations, and electronic needs. First week will be dedicated to training for the position. Assist with the development and revision of instructional documentation and training workshops, creating handouts and web-based information resources.
Help develop proposals, training plans, and instructional content and new ideas. Assist by-appointment users in multimedia needs, documenting how the time is spent (# of people, number of events, type of work, etc.), performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by work supervisor. Office work including filing, copying, and answering telephone. Greet walk-ins. Office hours are M-F 8:30am to 4:30pm, Work hours will be dictated by student's course schedule, 5-8 hours per week. Specific skills required if any: Computer literacy, Office and Imaging software skills a plus possess strong organization and time management skills, must be capable of operating computers, digital cameras (still and video), CD/DVD burners, scanners, photo printers and other multimedia computer peripherals, also must have excellent written, communication and organizational skills. Good people skills are essential (teaching experience is a plus), ability to work independently. Serve as support personnel for the Technical Services Supervisor. The Student Interlibrary Loan Assistant assists with the retrieval, processing, and shipping of interlibrary loan materials. Process ILL Lending: Retrieve lending requests, make copies, scan articles, fax articles, prepare items for shipping, and file requests. Process incoming Bin and US Mail: Deliver mail and contents of courier bin to downstairs office, unpack materials, and pull requests from files. Check out borrowed books to Curry patrons, check in returns, and prepare borrowing returns for shipping. Process ILL Borrowing: affix book straps, check out borrowed books to Curry patrons, file items and requests, and prepare returns for shipping. Keep track of ILL supplies; make new return mailing labels and delivery routing slips as needed.

Duties consist of sorting mail when received from the U.S. Postal Service, logging in packages received from United Parcel Service and Federal Express, and delivering mail and packages to various faculty and staff offices around campus. Training will be available to the selected students. However, the student will always be accompanied by a staff employee while sorting mail or delivering packages. The hours available are one work study position from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The other position will work from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM Tuesday and Thursday. The selected candidates will have to have the ability to follow instructions, think independently while sorting mail and be capable of lifting up to fifty pounds.
Media Services/Technology Center

The Media Services Assistant represents the Media Services Department. This person is responsible for conducting him/herself in a professional manner at all times. This person is responsible for taking and filling requests for equipment around the campus. This person must be reliable and punctual. It is expected that the person will be competent in the skills areas detailed below in order to perform the technical aspects of this position. Ability to work hours as required for necessary coverage.
Reliability and proven record of attendance and punctuality, professional demeanor and neat attire, ability to communicate effectively with faculty and staff, ability to work with other workers, ability to move and deliver equipment around campus, strong organizational skills, attendance at mandatory training/orientation session, strong attention to detail and documentation skills, and ability to install and assemble media equipment. Training will be provided. However, it is necessary that candidate have a working knowledge in most, if not all of the following areas: Connecting LCD projectors to other equipment such as a VCR or a computer, Working with computer functions such as turning it on, connecting the peripheral devices, replacing batteries and bulbs to various machines, miscellaneous media setups such as sound system, screens, TV/VCR/DVD, etc.

The primary responsibility of the Student Office Assistant will be assisting the Registrar's Office staff with general office duties which include alphabetizing, copying, filing student forms and related academic documents as well as front office customer service; answering phones and questions. Other special projects will be assigned by the Registrar's staff. On the job training will be provided. Hours are flexible between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. PAL Assistive Technology Center Assistant, Workstudy

AT Center Assistants must be available to schedule shifts to provide coverage Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Occasional evening hours may be available for running assistive technology training sessions.
On the job training is provided, minimum of 4 hours. PAL AT Center Assistants will: Assist and train students, faculty, and staff on Kurzweil Reader, scanners, and Dragon dictation software. Assist students with routine computer operations in Windows, MSOffice, and institutional software (e.g. CWIS, myCurry).
Help maintain a safe, clean, and user friendly work environment. Troubleshoot and initiate problem solving for malfunctioning equipment, programs, or systems. Ensure assistive technology hardware is operational and ready for use. Provide basic office assistance (e.g., answering phones, mailings, filing, photocopying). May also work on special projects such as digitizing audio media and creating multimedia tech tutorials.
Minimum Experience/Skills: Must be punctual and responsible. Must communicate with fellow students, coworkers, and supervisors in a collegial and informative manner. Preferred Experience/Skills: Training or tutoring; office/clerical work; library services; media formatting and editing (image, video, audio); Kurzweil, Dragon, TTS/voice recognition software, DAISY players/software; and/or tech support. Ability to work at a desk based computer station. Position may require bending and twisting. Position requires working in a multilevel building with no elevator - essential work schedule and duties can be arranged to allow work on a single ground level floor.

PAL Computer Lab Aid must be available to schedule shifts to provide coverage Monday through Thursday from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Fridays from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. On the job training is provided, minimum of 4 hours.
PAL Computer Lab Aid will: Open and close lab. Ensure students sign in and out. Monitor computer lab use to ensure compliance with school and departmental policies. Proactively assist students with computer operations in Windows, MSOffice, and institutional software (e.g. CWIS, myCurry, Blackboard, print manager software). Communicate and reinforce good computer habits for students. Help maintain a safe, clean, and user friendly work environment. Troubleshoot and initiate problem solving for malfunctioning equipment, programs, or systems. Work on special projects and providing basic office assistance (e.g., answering phones, mailings, filing, photocopying) when needed.

Clean up of Chemistry, A&P and Biology Lab. Assist with office coverage. On the job training will be provided. Schedule for Lab Clean-up is flexible. Office coverage is 8:15 to 9:30 Monday thru Thursday and 2:15 to 4:30 Monday thru Thursday. Good communication skills, attention to detail and reliability required. Prefer Science/Biology Majors, but other will be considered.

Program Assistant, Workstudy

The Student Activities Office is looking for motivated students to take on the position of Program Assistant (PA) to help clubs and organizations with their event planning and funding process. The PA will work one on one with student leaders to assist with forms and paperwork in event planning and funding requests may be asked to attend occasional club meetings and events, make recommendations to club and organization leadership, and schedule appointments as necessary for clubs/organizations to meet with an Student Activities staff member. The PA will also be asked to help with general office functions such as answering phones and assisting office traffic. Training on the event registration process and funding will be given. 5 to 10 hours per week during office operating hours (Mon-Thurs, 8:30am-8pm, F 8:30am-4:30pm). Ideally, this person has a positive attitude, is customer service oriented and has previous experience with event planning. Any major is welcome.

The Student Activities Office is looking for a motivated student to take on the position of Project Manager (PM) for Off-Campus Trips. The PM will assist in helping the Student Activities staff to coordinate all aspects of off-campus trips, including but not limited to, Curry Up & Go, Celtics & Bruins games and area College Nights. Responsibilities will include working with vendors to coordinate tickets, coordinating chaperones for the events, working with Curry staff, publicizing the events and keeping track of ticket sales. 5 to 10 hours per week during office operating hours (Mon-Thurs, 8:30am-8pm, F 8:30am-4:30pm, some weekend hours as needed). Ideally, this person has an interest in event planning and marketing, pays attention to detail, works well with others and has good customer service skills.

Project Manager for the Yearbook, Workstudy

The PM will assist in helping the Assistant Director of Student Activities put together the Yearbook for the Class of 2011 and would also include sending out the 2010 Yearbook. The PM is responsible for laying out pages, gathering photos, communicating with the necessary staff, organizing parent ads and aiding with the yearbook waivers. Training on using the online layout program will be given. Five to 10 hours per week during office operating hours (Mon-Thurs, 8:30am-8pm, F 8:30am-4:30pm). Ideally, this person has experience with layout and design, pays attention to detail and has good customer service skills.

Do you love planning events, marketing, design and/or working in a collaborative work environment? The Student Activities Office is looking for highly motivated, creative and energetic students who can assist the Student Activities staff with event planning, on-campus errands and a variety of general office tasks which include, but are not limited to answering the phone, filing, coping, faxing, greeting and students. This department can be busy at times and we are in need of someone who has a great attention to detail, flexible and able to work on a variety of projects at any given time.

Students are trained the first few days of employment with a continuous on the job training while employed. Staff is always on hand to train or answer any questions the student might have regarding their duties and responsibilities. Students must have the ability to multitask, great customer service, flexible, answering the phone, photocopying, data entry, filing, and excellent communication skills and is comfortable answering the phone and greeting people.

Position as office assistant in the Dean of Students Office entails answering the telephone and receiving students who have meetings with the Dean of Students, the Director of Judicial Conduct and the Alcohol and Drug Wellness Educator. The student office assistant will also help with light filing, photocopying, mailings and other various projects. On-the-job training will be provided. Student should have a professional demeanor, excellent communication skills and the ability to handle parent phone calls while maintaining confidentiality.
8 hours per week, Mondays and Fridays preferably around lunchtime, with additional hours to be determined. Coverage of office on first Wednesday of each month from 9:00 am to 10:30 am would be a plus.

The Student Event Staff's primarily responsibility will be to take part in the setting up of rooms for special events within the Student Centers and other locations on campus as managed by the Student Activities Office. The Student Event Staff is required to make the weekly Set-Up scheduling meeting and team meetings as assigned. The position requires the ability to lift 30 pounds and other duties as assigned in order to provide the best customer service possible.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provide support for events & meetings taking place in the Student Center, assist with set-up and clean-up of meeting rooms & programming spaces, responsible for the enforcement of college policies when it comes to safety & security reporting and, when possible, resolving set-up & maintenance issues. Candidates must be a current Curry College student in good standing with the college, have the ability to lift 30 lbs. be available to work a minimum of eight hours per week. Also must give an availability of fourteen hours for scheduling purposes. Nights and weekends required. All shifts will be scheduled on a permanent basis except for minimal weekend late night shifts which will be on a rotating basis. Attending all Student Center Staff Meetings and all Trainings is required. Applicants should be prepared to return to campus early.

Responsible for answering main console (College Switchboard), needed coverage for lunch breaks and scheduled days off. We require someone with good phone etiquette, strong speaking skills. Must be dependable, reliable and prompt. Communication Majors may benefit from this position but all will be considered.
