Suzin Bartley, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Children's Trust Fund, was awarded a Doctor of Public Administration.  Bartley is credited with facilitating the funding for more than 100 community-based organizations throughout Massachusetts, which has created a statewide network of parenting education and support programs.

Among several other achievements, she also developed and implemented a universal home visiting program for young parents, which has become a national model.

In his Commencement address, Daniels used examples from a long, successful career in journalism to convey the importance, not only of a strong education, but of strong leadership as well.

"Education and leadership are interwoven, down to the very roots of the word "educate", which comes from the Latin "duco" - to lead, shape or form," he remarked. "This college and its faculty have led you to this point, and have done so with a strong sense of purpose, passion and rigor. Now it's time for you to use your gifts to be great leaders."

Daniels continued that theme throughout and closed with, "May the paths you take as leaders be as straight and smooth as they can possibly be.  May the paths you make as leaders be thrilling in what you discover and accomplish.  Go forth and lead us all to better places - for with the right kind of truly inspired and expert leadership from all of you, such places await us."

Carrie Hormanski of Central Falls, RI was named valedictorian and Sasha Almeida-Beers of Rehoboth, MA was named salutatorian of the traditional undergraduate Class of 2010. Nathan Ferbert of Middleboro, MA and Alan Wise were both named valedictorians and Herbert Noble of East Wareham, MA was named salutatorian for the Continuing Education Class of 2010. The Commencement ceremonies were followed by a special reception for all in attendance at Westhaver Park, in front of the school's recently constructed Student Center.
