Curry College President Kenneth K. Quigley, Jr. is pleased to announce that Dr. Marie Farrell, Professor, The Fielding Graduate University, and Founding Chair of the Curry College Nursing Program, received an Honorary Degree at Curry’s Commencement ceremony today in Milton, Massachusetts. Curry College awarded Marie Farrell a Doctor of Science.
Dr. Marie Farrell Ed.D., M.P.H., R.N., FAAN is currently a Professor in the Human and Organizational Development Department at the Fielding Graduate University, a doctoral networked distance learning program in human and organizational development in California. She is also CEO of Farrell Consulting, LLC, an executive and corporate coaching firm in Bakersfield, CA. In 1977, Dr. Farrell was the founding chair of the Division of Nursing at Curry College, which absorbed the Children’s Hospital Nursing program and converted it to a degree granting program.
Dr. Farrell holds a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Boston University, a master’s degree in Public Health from Harvard University School of Public Health, a master’s degree in Maternal and Child Health Nursing from Boston College, a master’s degree in Counseling from the University of Connecticut, and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Bridgeport.
Dr. Farrell has over 30 years progressive experience in healthcare administration, hospital-based research, health care consulting, nursing educational administration, counseling psychology and networked distance learning in the United States, Europe, South-east Asia, and Africa.
Professional activities include serving as a healthcare consultant for the World Health Organization and for the United States Public Health Service, and as faculty member at Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Farrell has also been the recipient of numerous awards: outstanding faculty member of the year at Curry College; Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society; World Health Organization Fellowship, 1985–1986; and National Honor Society for Professional Women in Education. She is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau, Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, and American Nurses Association.
