Dr. David A. Fedo Receives Honorary Degree and Speaks at Curry College Commencement

Curry College President Kenneth K. Quigley, Jr. is pleased to announce that retiring Vice President and Academic Dean Dr. David A. Fedo received an Honorary Degree and served as Commencement speaker at Curry’s Commencement ceremony today in Milton, Massachusetts. Curry College awarded Dean Fedo a Doctor of Education.

Dr.  David A. Fedo has been Curry College’s chief academic officer since 1990, with responsibilities for all undergraduate and graduate programs and faculty. He came to Curry from Bentley College in Waltham, MA, where he was the Associate Dean of the Undergraduate College and Professor of English (1980 to 1990). Prior to that (1971 to 1980) he had served as a member of the Humanities faculty and Director of the Division of Liberal Arts at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston.

Dean Fedo received his B.A. in English from the University of Minnesota in 1965, and his M.A. (1966) and Ph.D. (1972) in English and American Literature from Boston University. He has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (1980-1990) and the Milton, MA Art Museum (1994-1997). He has served on and chaired numerous visiting accreditation teams of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. and the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education, and has been a participating scholar in programs sponsored by the Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities (MFH).

Dean Fedo’s book, William Carlos Williams: A Poet in the American Theatre, was published in 1983. He was co-editor of Corporate Governance and Institutionalizing Ethics (1984), and Ethics and the Multinational Enterprise (1986). His articles on higher education, the humanities and the professions have appeared in such publications as The Chronicle of Higher Education, Change, The College Board Review, The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald and elsewhere. His poems and reviews have appeared in many periodicals and journals over the past 30 years.

As the academic leader of Curry College for nearly two decades, David A. Fedo has served under three Presidents, and seen thousands of Curry College students receive their degrees.  In recent years, he has seen the number of full-time faculty grow significantly, and has been a leader in bringing new graduate and undergraduate degrees and programs to Curry College.

Dean Fedo will be retiring from Curry to take a two-year appointment as the Executive Director and Visiting Scholar of the Wheelock College Center for International Education, Leadership and Innovation in Singapore.
