Melvin B. Drapkin, Vice Chairman of the Curry College Board of Trustees, received an honorary degree at Curry’s Commencement ceremony in Milton, Massachusetts on Sunday, May 17, 2009. Mr. Drapkin was awarded a Doctor of Business Administration by Curry College President Kenneth K. Quigley, Jr.
Melvin B. Drapkin has served two separate terms on the Curry College Board of Trustees, and currently serves as its Vice Chairman.
For many years, Mel Drapkin has continued his family’s legacy of service to Curry College. Mr. Drapkin’s father, Joseph, received an honorary degree from Curry College in 1960, and his mother, Frieda, received an honorary degree from Curry College in 1961.
Mr. Drapkin serves as the President of Atlas Mortgage Corporation, and as a Trustee of the Atlas Foundation. The Atlas Foundation, one of two Drapkin family charitable foundations, supports numerous not-for-profit organizations.
Curry College is a 130-year old, private, four-year, liberal arts institution located on 135 acres in Milton, MA. Curry extends its educational programs to a continuing education branch campus in Plymouth. Curry offers 20 undergraduate degrees as well as graduate degrees in business, education, criminal justice and nursing, with a combined enrollment of approximately 4,100 students. The student body consists of approximately 2,000 traditional undergraduate students, 1,650 continuing education and 450 graduate students. Curry College students come from 40 states and 32 countries. Over 1,450 of its students reside on the Curry campus. The largest majors are Business Management, Communication, Nursing, Criminal Justice and Education. The College offers a wide array of extra-curricular activities ranging from 13 NCAA division III athletic teams to an outstanding theatre program.
