Suzanne Strempek Shea to Speak at the Blue Hills Writing Institute at Curry College

Milton, MA -- The Blue Hills Writing Institute at Curry College, hosted by Institute Director Robert Atwan, is proud to present a lecture and reading by writer Suzanne Strempek Shea on Monday, August 9, 2004 at 7:15 p.m. 

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Alumni Recreation Center (ARC), on the Milton Campus located at 1071 Blue Hill Avenue.

Suzanne Strempek Shea is the author of Selling the Lite of Heaven, Hoopi Shoopi Donna, Lily of the Valley, and Around Again, all published by Washington Square Press. She's also written two memoirs: Songs From a Lead-lined Room, the account of her radiation treatments for breast cancer, now out in paperback from Beacon Press; and the newly published Shelf Life: Romance, Mystery, Drama and Other Page-Turning Adventures From a Year in a Bookstore, also published by Beacon and telling of her first year working at Edwards Books, a 30-year-old family-owned independent bookstore in Springfield, Massachusetts.

She was the 2000 recipient of the New England Book Award for Fiction, presented by the New England Booksellers Association for a body of work that has contributed to the literature of the New England region. After being published in Yankee, Suzanne's short story The Sweater was included in a list of 100 distinguished stories of 1999 printed in the 2000 edition of The Best American Short Stories.
