Writing Assessment Instructions

Congratulations and welcome!  In order to place you in a first-year writing class that fits your needs, we ask that you please follow the steps below.  Please note that you will not be able to receive a Fall schedule of courses until you complete the Writing Assessment.  We strongly recommend that you complete this within two weeks of receiving your new student packet.

A summary of what you will need to do:

1.  Print the 2-page set of directions and essay. Download Writing Assessment(PDF)

2.  Set aside approximately an hour in a quiet space to complete the essay.

3.  Make sure you have some lined 8 1/2 x 11 notebook paper and either a pen or pencil.

4.  Read the essay on "What is Intelligence, Anyway?" and respond to the question in writing. 

5.  Save all notes and outlines.

6.  Make a copy of the essay, notes, and outlines for yourself.

7.  Send the finished essay, together with notes and/or outlines to:
