New Employee Technical Orientation

The intended audience is new employees.  This training session will consist of Banner Navigation and an introduction to network resources.

Some of the topics covered in Banner Navigation will include accessing Banner Forms and the Curry Web Information System (CWIS), Banner form functionality, using effective searching, and data entry standards used by the college.  Banner Fields such as term codes, student status and level codes, address types and address hierarchies will be covered as Curry uses these fields.  An introduction to the CWIS report menu will be covered.

An introduction to the network resources will include accessing the Curry network on campus and remotely.  How to change passwords and personal settings.  The different network drives, including the common drive, departmental drives, and personal drive.  A brief introduction to Microsoft Office will include accessing E-mail through Outlook, Word and Excel.

Excel With CWIS and Banner

The intended audience is users who run reports from the CWIS and download them to Excel.  Some of the topics covered include installing and executing the Banner Download macro, sorting and filtering data, personalized settings, built-in Excel functions, and formatting.  Shortcuts and tips will also be covered in the training session.

Word With CWIS and Banner

The focus of this training session is on using Microsoft Word for mail merges using data from Banner.  The mail merge feature of Microsoft Word is used to create labels, personalized messages and E-mails.  Topics will include creating data sources from Banner Forms and CWIS reports using population selections and custom reports, and the steps to complete a mail merge using Word.  Basic tips for composing and printing a document, using formatting, headers and footers, and margins.

How to Use Outlook Effectively

The intended audience is new and current Outlook users.  Outlook is an effective tool to manage E-mail.  Topics will include Message Handling (compose, send, reply, forward), Special Features (spelling and grammar check, formatting, setting message priorities, pre-expiring messages, attachments), Organization (folder handling, archiving old messages, and distribution lists), Calendar (scheduling meetings, track responses, tasks), Settings (sorting, finding and filtering messages, junk mail, out-of-office, personalization).
