Corporate and Business Communication

Good communication skills are consistently ranked as critical for successful managers, and success in today’s marketplace means more than just having good ideas; success means being able to communicate your ideas – to your clients, your co-workers, and your boss.

This 15-credit certificate program provides an intensive course of study in the most frequently used basic professional public communication approaches, i.e. writing, speaking, and presenting information for the corporate and/or non-profit sectors.  Flexible requirements allow students to tailor the certificate to their own positions, interests, and communication needs.

Who Should Pursue this Program:

This certificate will assist any working professional who has not had formal training in communication, including:

  • sales and marketing managers who need to take on internal or external communication responsibilities
  • first level managers who want to move up or who were recently promoted
  • established employees who have recently taken on management and/or client responsibilities
  • high technology sector employees who need coaching in “non-technical communication” skills
  • anyone working in the private, public, or non-profit sectors who needs better communication skills.

What You Will Learn:

Students will learn about both the new and traditional communication vehicles and formats required in most jobs today:

  • client/customer proposals and presentations
  • speeches to large and small groups
  • media development and management for large or small meetings (electronic and face-to-face)
  • public communication, including press releases, web pages, webcast design, and media interviews
