Teachers and administrators in public schools are required to earn Professional Development Points on a regular basis. These points may be earned in various ways, including graduate coursework. According to the Massachusetts Department of Education, graduate courses are considered according to the following formula: one semester hour = 22.5 PDPs. Curry College graduate courses are three semester hour courses, and are therefore equivalent to 67.5 PDPs.
The College does not award PDPs. Instead, it issues transcripts indicating that a course has been completed. These can then be submitted to the Department of Education according to its guidelines. The determination of appropriate coursework or professional development is made by the individual, often in consultation with his or her employer. Within the guidelines of each professional’s Recertification Plan, all graduate courses in education offered at the college may be used for PDPs.
