PAL begins with Summer PAL, an optional, but strongly recommended 3-credit experience that takes place for 3 weeks in either June or July. Students in Summer PAL are able to get a head start on understanding themselves as learners and developing skills that will help them to succeed in the fall.
Students enrolled in PAL register for one PAL course in addition to their other classes. In their first year, students enroll in PAL1190 in their first semester and PAL1200 in their second semester. These are credited courses which consist of individual and small group meetings with the students’ PAL professors. In these sessions, students learn to find the tools they need for success by learning how they learn best. The scheduled time for PAL is determined by the student and professor at the beginning of the semester. Once a regular meeting time is selected, students are expected to attend PAL every week in order to earn a passing grade in PAL.
Students are expected to make a commitment to attending PAL and reporting truthfully about their performance in classes. Attendance in classes is critical for success at PAL and Curry. Students are asked to engage in thoughtful, meaningful reflection of their learning and be willing to work to improve their skills.
