The new buzzword in television is HDTV, High Definition Television, and for Curry's television students the future is now. Curry's Director of Television, Associate Professor Jerry Gibbs, says Curry is one of the first colleges in the country to offer HDTV instruction.
"High Definition is the future of television and video production. But very few people really know how to shoot in HD, edit in HD or distribute content in HD. Our students will be gaining knowledge in all three of those areas, and be light-years ahead of other college students when they graduate," Gibbs said.
The HDTV rollout includes the purchasing of new HD cameras, field lighting and the installation of high-end HD editing suites where students will edit footage using AVID HD and Final Cut HD.
"Right now, distribution in HD is in its infancy," said Gibbs. "It's the beginning of a new video era every bit as important as the introduction of color television or videotape. What a wonderful time to be starting a career in television production!"
