Lamda Pi Eta Inductions

Curry’s Communication department held its annual induction ceremony for new members to the national Communication honor society, Lamda Pi Eta on Thursday, March 23.

Professor Vicki Nelson and Professor Sharon Sinnott, advisors for the Lambda Pi Eta chapter at Curry, said letters were mailed out to 36 eligible students.  Students of junior standing who have maintained a 3.0 GPA overall, a 3.25 GPA in Communication courses, and are in the upper 35% of their graduating class are eligible.

“It’s an honor to induct such deserving students again this year. The department is proud of their achievements and we welcome them into this prestigious organization”, said Professor Nelson.

LPH has over 400 active chapters at four-year colleges and universities worldwide. LPH was founded in 1985 at the University of Arkansas. LPH became a part of the National Communication Association (NCA) in 1988, and the official honor society of the NCA in July 1995.

LPH represents what Aristotle described in his book, Rhetoric, as the three ingredients of persuasion: Logos (Lambda) meaning logic, Pathos (Pi) relating to emotion, and Ethos (Eta) defined as character credibility and ethics.

Dinner and the traditional candle lighting ceremony was held on Thursday, March 23 at 5:00 p.m.   Family, friends and faculty were in the audience for this special evening.
