Curry’s partnership with FilmShack, a Roxbury-based film production company, continued this spring with great hands-on course offerings for aspiring film students.
The courses change each semester depending on the interests of the students who sign up. Among the most popular are:
“Intro to 16mm Film Production”
This class is designed as an intro level course. In this workshop, learn the inner workings of the 16mm camera. Students will learn on the Arriflex SR camera system, including film loading, set up and proper use and rigging of the camera. They will learn the general basics required in film production, including lens selection, contrast and exposure control, double system audio recording and time lapse photography. Students will shoot camera tests and review the results in class in a Bonus Telecine (film to video transfer) workshop to be held at FilmShack.
“Intro to Short Film Screenwriting”
You can’t make a good movie out of a bad script. A well crafted story, with developed characters and solid story structure will leave audiences compelled and riveted. This course is structured in the first half to give students a broad overview of screenwriting: development, research, format, and drafting. The second half of the course will concentrate on taking your ideas and writing a short script.
Other courses include Film Directing, Film Lighting, and Movie Acting. Class size is limited to 5 to 7 students. Contact Film Studies Coordinator, Professor Dorria DiManno for full information. She can be reached at 617-333-2983, by email at ddimanno@curry.edu or during office hours in Hirsh Communication Center Office 101.
The courses cost $450, or $400 if you’ve taken one before, and are worth one Curry credit.
