Speaking Contest a Big Success

The Communication department held the first-ever Excellence In Public Speaking Contest on Wednesday March 26 where sixteen students competed to win first, second and third place prizes.   Speeches ran the gamut from motivational, inspirational, persuasive, informative and humorous.
 
A panel of Communication faculty, Prof. Alan Frank, Prof. Ruth Spillberg, Prof. Marcy Holbrook and Prof. Roberta Kosberg, served as judges with the following top three winners being announced:
 
1st. Place: John Abdulla --Topic: Global Poverty and Helping Others and Influencing Legislation
2nd. Place: Anna Gunning --Topic: Improving Our Sex Lives Through Purity and Waiting for the Right One
3rd. Place: Debra Casallas --Topic: Nutrition and Eating A Heart Healthy Diet

The creator of the contest, Prof. Bob Burns, said he was thrilled with the results of the contest.   Burns said the contest brought Curry back to its roots as a school of expression and oratory.
 
"The entire Curry College community came together, supported our Speech Contest, and made the night a smashing success," said Prof. Burns.
