A pilot for a television sitcom was filmed at Curry in early August, fulfilling the dream of a Curry student who left for LA after graduating two years ago with the goal of making it big in Hollywood. The comedy is called “The Graduates” which follows a group of grad students as they navigate their life between college studies and personal travails.
Curry alum Patrick Beck left for LA right after graduating in 2006. He and a group of buddies found freelance work in the LA television and film community, but they discovered it was much harder to get their scripts looked at, much less turned into reality. This year, they dreamed big and decided to fund the production of the pilot themselves.

Their effort has included casting, location scouting, and now filming the actual pilot. When Curry College learned they needed a college campus to shoot the pilot, it was a natural to get involved.
“We were thrilled to help Patrick come back to his alma mater and be part of a production that could jump start his career,” said Jerry Gibbs, associate professor and director of the television major at Curry. “Patrick and his friends are not just talking the talk, they’re walking the walk and it is a tremendous thing to watch.”
The production took place all over campus with current Curry film and television students getting a chance to participate in the filming as extras and production assistants.
"I really wanted to give Curry students a chance to work on a production," said Patrick. "I hope this will help in their decision to get into the business and move out to LA. We have a couch available for them if they come!"
