Child Youth and Community Education

The Child, Youth, and Community Education major prepares students for careers working for organizations that provide educational programs for children, youth and the community.  Students receive a strong foundation in education-related coursework supplemented by a variety of field placement experiences to further refine and define their field of study.

This program includes 15 credits of required core courses and in addition students must fulfill the requirements of the concentration selected. These concentrations include:

  • Early Care in Education (meets the standards of the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care)
  • School Age Care (meets the standards of the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care)
  • Community Education

Important Information

  • Students accepted to a Child, Youth and Community Education major must achieve a C or better in all Education courses.
  • In addition to completing the prerequisite and core requirements, students must choose a concentration to complete.
  • In order to register for the Senior Capstone, ED 3850, students must have completed all required Education courses (with no outstanding incompletes in the major). Students who do not meet this requirement must obtain the permission of the Department.
