About the Department

The Fine and Applied Arts Department is a place to make connections. You will find us in the Kennedy Academic Building on the South Campus, with our faculty offices, classrooms, studios, and MacIntosh computer lab on the third floor and additional music facilities and a ceramics studio on the first floor. The MacIntosh lab features current hardware and software, plus an Epson Wide-Format Printer capable of printing up to 24-inch wide text and graphics. Additionally, there is a photography lab in the Hafer Academic Building.

The department offers majors in Graphic Design  and Visual Arts, and minors in Graphic Design, Studio Arts, Dance, and Music. Our students earn credit through internships at local advertising and design agencies, galleries, and other businesses.

The Central Liberal Arts Curriculum course, Introduction to Fine Arts, engages students in an integrated experience in the visual arts, dance, and music. Many students elect courses in dance, music and the visual arts to satisfy their upper-level requirements.  Private for-credit music lessons in guitar, piano, and voice are also popular electives.

The Fine and Applied Arts faculty are active as graphic designers, artists, performers, all-college committee members and leaders, and most of all as energetic teachers connecting daily with students. One highlight of the year is “Careers in the Arts,” an evening of conversation with a panel of professional artists and designers. To cap off each spring semester, the Student Visual Art Exhibit opens to the public on North Campus, the Chamber Chorale and other student musicians perform, and “Curry Dances” showcases the talents of our dance classes.

Fine and Applied Arts is a department on the move!  Connect with us.
