About the Department

At Curry, we see a role for the sciences and mathematics in every student’s future.

Majors in Biology and Environmental Science are aimed at producing graduates who:

   • are readily employable
   • are prepared for further study in graduate programs
   • have met the course requirements for medical, and dental, veterinary, and other professional schools
   • have marketable skills sought by all employers – critical thinking, analysis and synthesis, problem solving

Minors in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Studies, Mathematics and Physics and courses in Forensics and Nutrition give students in other majors additional specialized knowledge and skills that:

   • provide an advantage in seeking employment
   • expand their options in choosing careers or graduate programs

Introductory science and math courses in the Central Liberal Arts Curriculum (CLAC) contribute to making all Curry graduates:

   • informed citizens
   • thoughtful decision makers
   • comfortable with depth and complexity

How we do it

The Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics shares the College’s goals of preparing beginning professionals within the context of a Liberal Arts education. It does this through a variety of learning situations:

 • teaching and learning in small classes with extensive opportunity forfaculty-student interaction and individual attention

 • focus on skill acquisition in the classroom and the laboratory

 • internships and other out-of-class experiences drawing on the natural and institutional resources of the Greater Boston area

 • independent learning, working with faculty mentors

 • working with others as a team
