Courtney Schwartz, an ACCEL nursing student who was nominated by Curry as the student program coordinator, and Dr. Ellie Nugent, professor of nursing and ACCEL program coordinator, organized student volunteers for the Diabetes Expo which took place on March 17, 2007 at the Boston World Trade Center.
Along with Dr. Nugent, the students participated in the screening for diabetes, high blood pressure as well as for kidney disease. The American Diabetes Association and the National Kidney Foundation booths were well manned by Curry College nursing students Colleen Hanlon, Linda Cugini, Nicole Cochran, Kerry Ronan, Asheley Weber, Kim Reske, Maura Gallagher and Courtney Schwartz. This was great opportunity for students and a very much appreciated endeavor by those who were screened.
