This is a list of the major goals in the psychology program, all of which need to be presented in your senior portfolio (required in the Senior Seminar course):
1. Knowledge Base in Psychology
Demonstrate this in your portfolio by including a list of all the psychology courses you have taken and the syllabi if you have them. For each course, briefly discuss what you learned and why it is important. Summarize the main concepts in your conclusion.
2. Research Methods
Demonstrate this in your portfolio by including your best research paper in Experimental Psychology. You may include other research based papers or discuss any experiences you have had doing research. End this section with a list of the main types of research and the pros and cons of each.
3. Critical Thinking
Demonstrate this in your portfolio by including your best and most thoughtful paper. Describe how you applied critical thinking in writing this paper. You may also include your life experiences which you evaluated critically. How has your thinking changed over your years here? Give examples.
4. Application to Everyday Life
Demonstrate this in your portfolio by enumerating and discussing experiences in which you applied psychological principles. You may include internships, jobs, family, and social experiences.
5. Values
Demonstrate in whatever way you can that you are an ethical person, that you know the basic rights and responsibilities of adults and psychologists. Have you done community service? Been involved in a moral issue or problem? Participated in a just cause? Describe how and why your values have changed over your years at Curry.
6. Information and Technical Literacy
Demonstrate this in your portfolio by including descriptions and syllabi in computer courses. Include at least one piece of work that shows your competency in using technology for research, communication, and production.
7. Communicate Effectively
Demonstrate this in your portfolio by including samples of your writing as a first year student and then your very best writing. Describe public speaking experiences you have had and how you've improved. Have you changed in the way you talk with others? Discuss.
8. Socio-cultural and International Awareness
Demonstrate this in your portfolio by discussing courses or themes that changed your views about diversity. Discuss experiences you had, on and off campus, that have led to an increase in awareness.
9. Personal Development
Demonstrate this in your portfolio by analyzing your strengths and weaknesses. What have you learned about yourself as a learner? Was your experience at Curry worth the time, energy, and money you have invested? Why or why not? What changes have you seen in yourself over the past four years?
10. Career Planning and Development
What are your future goals and plans? Why? Include one site visit and/or interviews relevant to your future plans and comment on them.
