My name is Kristyn MacFawn and last semester I went and studied abroad in Australia. Like most students, I was very nervous. I wasn't sure what to expect. Was I going to like it at my new school? Will I make new friends? Will I be able to survive on my own since the furthest I've been away from my house is Milton? These were the thoughts that were running through my head before I departed from Logan Airport on January 2, 2007.
By the end of the first week, I knew I was going to be just fine. I already met a lot of knew friends and the excitement had already started. In one week, I went scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef, went to the zoo where I held my first koala, and this was just the start...
Throughout the semester, I traveled up and down the east coast of Australia and even into the southern island of New Zealand with a group of Americans that I met through my study abroad program (Australearn). It was so much fun. Even school was a blast...but I definitely had to go to every class to make sure I wouldn't get behind. They also had parties, dances, special dinners, etc. to make the week fun and exciting.
The last day came so fast and I had to say goodbye to not only my new friends, but Australia in general. This experience is the chance of a lifetime and everyone should to take full advantage while they're in school.
