For Attorney Alex Seifart, the annual Curry College Alumni Hockey Game is a great way to see old friends and catch up with what’s happening at Curry College. Despite having a law practice down the road in nearby Norwood, the busy life of an attorney doesn’t allow time for much else.
The combination of a solid financial aid package and the opportunity to play hockey brought Alex to Curry in the early nineties when law school was only in the back of his mind. As a Politics and History major, Alex had many classes with Professors John Hill and Robert Keighton, two educators who have positively affected so many Curry students over the years. Things really took off during his senior year after a trip to the Career Services office. Alex secured internships with Smith Barney and Arthur Andersen. The experience he gathered taught him how people behaved and functioned in a professional environment as well as the importance of networking.
With graduation looming, Chris returned to Career Services and received help in landing his first job with Sun Life where he worked for a year and a half. He had stayed involved with hockey and took his shot to play professionally as a goalie in the United Hockey League, a semi pro league which was based in the mid west. When he returned to the East Coast he used a job in car sales to finance law school at Northeastern University after realizing entry level jobs at firms would not foot the bill. Using the networking skills he picked up during his internships to foster and develop his contact base, Alex has advanced from working in other lawyer’s firms to his own practice. Alex recalls one-on-one learning with Professors like John Hill that developed his professional demeanor, interactions that would not have been possible in a larger setting. Those skills have paid off in a variety of ways, including following successful partners who were starting their own firms to branching out on his own with a client base that was willing to join him.
Alex remains a valued member of the Curry community by staying involved. Having recently hired his first full-time paralegal, he is on his way to growing and expanding his practice. Thanks to Alex and all the alumni who continue to show their commitment to Curry College, a commitment that serves as an example to all members of our community.
