On November 30, Joseph Morabito will be attending the Curry College Alumni Reception in New York City for the second year in a row. The only difference is that this time, it will be as an alumnus. Last year’s reception was built around a group of Television students who traveled to the Big Apple to see firsthand the broadcasting practices they were studying. While there, the students attended an alumni reception made up primarily of alums working in broadcasting. The experience taught Joe the power of networking and the tremendous opportunities it provides. Joe was already in New York City at that time working as an intern for MTV Networks. After graduation, Joe returned to the city and took a job with Millennium Sales and Marketing, a division of the Katz Media Group owned and operated by Clear Channel Communications.
Joe’s 2005 internship with MTV was his fifth while at Curry College. Other internships included production work with WHDH Channel 7, WCVB Channel 5 and BELD Broadband. Joe is a terrific example of what can happen when you define a clear goal for yourself and work hard to achieve it. His position with Millennium will afford him the opportunity to learn the financial aspect of broadcasting including how advertising space is allotted, sold and changed to meet new demands and dynamic time constraints. This will help to make him a well rounded candidate for future positions. With his solid networking skills and plenty of opportunities as a Curry alum to use them, Joe will be an alumnus to watch in the coming years.
Joe cites Professor Jerry Gibbs and Career Services director Michelle Perrault as being integral in his development at Curry College and for helping to guide his job search afterwards. “I had Professor Gibbs for several classes and he provides great hands-on training. Michelle Perrault helped me set up my internships and then helped me get through them. Her advice with my resume and job search helped a great deal.”
Joe is an active alumnus and understands the responsibility we all carry for making Curry the best it can be. “I am extremely proud of my time at Curry and proud of where I come from. I feel that Curry is an important part of who I am and I am thankful. It is important to be involved in networking, not only to get help but to be able to help others. It feels good to be a part of something so significant.”
