The Deutsche Bank Championship, an important tournament for the PGA TOUR as one of four events in the race for the FedExCup, wrapped up this past August at The Tournament Players Club (TPC) of Boston.  Tom Ellis, Head Golf Professional of TPC Boston, and Curry College graduate, made sure every detail was attended to and that a smooth tournament was carried out for the TOUR's elite players and national television audience.

Tom completed his management degree at Curry College through the Continuing Education program allowing him to attend classes while advancing his career with the PGA TOUR's TPC Network.  Tom uses his classroom knowledge to ensure that the business side of the golf operation runs smoothly. As Head Golf Professional Tom oversees the entire golf operation of the club and a staff of Assistant Golf Professionals who all work to ensure the PGA TOUR owned facility is operating at the highest possible level.  In addition to the Deutsche Bank Championship, TPC Boston hosts corporate functions, tournaments, instruction programs and 325 year round members.  Tom has also had the opportunity to write instruction articles for the Professional Golfer's Association's website, PGA.com.

Tom is responsible for managing the club's merchandising operation, member instruction programs, golf related tournaments and hosting the TOUR players during the PGA TOUR's Deutsche Bank Championship, which generates in one week the club's merchandising sales for the entire year.  It takes a great deal of planning and execution to make it all work at the same time you are hosting an important tournament for PGA TOUR professionals.

Tom began his college studies in South Carolina and found himself transitioning from working part-time at the TPC Myrtle Beach to an internship and eventual Assistant Golf Professional position at the TPC Avenel in Washington D.C.  From there Tom came to the TPC Boston where he took over as Head Golf Professional two years ago.  He realized he needed to finish his degree while maintaining his position with the PGA TOUR.  Curry's personalized approach made a big difference for a working professional like Tom.

"The input and experience from the Professors really helps you to understand what you are learning.  I knew after taking my first course, International Business with Professor Silver that I was in the right place."

Whether it was advice from Senior CE Director Steve Belaief or instruction from professors like Ernie Silver, Curry helped Tom complete his degree and bolster his career.

Congratulations to Tom and thanks for providing a great example on what is possible through the Curry College Division of Continuing and Graduate Studies.
