Glossary of Housing Selection Terms

"Pulling":  Pulling occurs when a student uses his/her lottery number to choose a room and fill any additional spaces in that room with prearranged roommates.  For instance, if you already know who you wish to room with and have a higher lottery pick than that person, you would choose a room and "pull" him/her into the room with you.

"A Single":  A room with space for only one resident.  These rooms require an additional fee of least $1000.00 and are offered through Single Room Selection.

Proxy Form:  A form, which when properly completed, allows a student to select a room for another student who is unable to attend the lottery process.  Any student who has another student submit a Proxy Form on his/her behalf MUST BE DEPOSITED BY THE MARCH 7 DEADLINE and must bring provide his/her proxy with a current, valid Curry College ID for use during the lottery.  No ID, no room!  Proxy Forms can be downloaded from the Residence Life section of the webpage. Download Form(PDF)

Lottery Pick:  Each student eligible for on-campus housing who has paid a housing deposit by March 7th is assigned a random computer-generated lottery number that represents the order by which rooms will be selected.

Class Standing:  Along with lottery number, determines when a student will select a room.  Seniors (84 or more credits), Juniors (54-83.5 credits), Sophomores (24-53.5 credits), and Freshmen (0- 23.5 credits) choose in respective order.  Please note the changes.  They are only for use during Residence Life Housing Selection purposes…this is not a change in College policy.

Petition for Exception:   This form should be filled out by a student who wishes to a) contest his/her class standing according to credits in order to select a room or Suite with the class above the one assigned to them or b) disclose his/her age as a reason for wanting to select a room on one side of campus or the other. Download Form(PDF)

Winter Intersession Housing:  This option is available for those students who require housing during the Winter Break.  This includes athletes and winter intersession students who need to be here when the residence halls are normally closed.  The following buildings will remain open during this time:  South Campus Residence Hall, North Campus Residence Hall, Suites and 886BHR Hall.
Anyone who anticipates any need for housing during the intersession is highly encouraged to select a room in one of these buildings.  Please note: these are the ONLY buildings that will remain open during the break. If a student chooses not to live in or is unable to select a room in one of these four buildings, it will be that student's responsibility to find a room in which to live if he/she needs to remain on campus over the break.

Medical Accommodation:   A room assignment designated for a student who has a current medical condition that necessitates such an accommodation.  Such rooms are granted by request only and all requests must be accompanied by appropriate, current medical documentation.
To aid this process, requests should include:
1. Documentation of the condition or need that is the basis of the request.
2. A clear description of the desired housing configuration;
3. An explanation of how the request relates to the impact of the condition;
4. An indication of the level of the need for the recommended configuration (and consequences of not receiving);
5. Possible alternatives if the recommended configuration is not possible.
To evaluate requests based on medical, psychological or disability related conditions accurately and equitably, Curry College will need documentation. Documentation consists of an evaluation by an appropriate professional that relates the current impact of the condition to the need for accommodation. A form is provided for this information. Download Form(PDF)
Medical Accommodations forms can be obtained from the Student Disabilities Officer; Dr. Thomas Byrne.  Those students who are granted such requests will be notified. Please note: there are only a limited number of rooms available each year so there is no guarantee that all requests will be granted.  All requests must be resubmitted each year

Rules of the Road

" There are no "Squatter's Rights" in effect this year.  All students must choose a room based on their lottery number.

" Lottery numbers are non-transferable (it's yours to use, not to deal).

" All seniors and juniors will reside on the South Side of campus.  All sophomores and freshmen will reside on the North Side of campus. To particiapte in Housing selection, you must have a VALID Curry College ID and must have paid your $300.00 housing deposit by the March 7th deadline.

" If you choose a sinlge room there will is an additional fee that comes along with it.   An outline of these fees will be made available prior to Housing Selection Week.  Please come to the Office of Residence Life if you have any questions.

" In order to select a suite during the Suites Lottery Process on April 2, you MUST be able to fill the chosen suite to its listed capacity.  Students will not be allowed to select spots or individual rooms within a suite.

" In order to select a non-suite room in the lottery process, you must fill at least 50% of that room.  For example, a triple or a quad may only be chosen if there are two people selecting it.  If there are empty spaces in the room you select (if you go into a double alone, or into a triple with one other person), the space WILL be filled by someone else.

" If you, or your roommate, withdraw from the College, a new roommate will be assigned to that empty space.

" The days the lottery numbers are posted, RD's will be available if you have any questions or concerns - they'll be glad to help you out!

ROOMMATE CONCERNS?

If you are having concerns about selecting a roommate for next year,  speak to your RD as soon as possible.  They will be very happy to try and help you. You can also find a roommate using our roommmate match group on FaceBook

PREVIEW OF CLASS STANDING

All students who participate in the lottery process will do so according to their "class standing".  Therefore, there will be a set of lottery numbers assigned for each class.

In order to best serve those students who will be participating in this process, the Office of Residence Life has compiled a list of all current residential students and their expected class standing at the end of this current semester.  This list is based on the current academic data contained in our Banner System.  The class listed after a student's name is what that student will be considered at the end of this semester, Spring 2008, assuming the student receives credit in all of the classes for which he/she is currently registered.

Please locate your name on this list and look at the class listed next to your name.  This will be your status for housing selection 2008-2009.  If you have any questions regarding your class standing, please see someone in the Registrar's Office.  If you have questions concerning how your class standing will affect your lottery pick or about how you can utilize the "Petition for Exception" process, please see the Office of Residence Life.

This list does not include lottery numbers nor is it considered a final list!  It has been compiled solely as a tool for students to use as they begin the room selection process and to help them decide if they will utilize the "Petition for Exception" process.  Petition for Exception is a form filled out by a student who wishes to: a) contest his/her class standing according to credits in order to select a room or Suite with the class above the one assigned to them or b) disclose his/her age as a reason for wanting to select a room on one side of campus or the other.  Completed forms are due to the Office of Residence Life no later than 4:30 pm on Friday, March 19, 2007.

The official list, which will include the names, class standing and lottery numbers of only those students who deposit by the March 7 deadline, will be posted and available for viewing during the week prior to Room Selection (which is on April 2, 3).

REMEMBER - This list does not include lottery numbers nor is it considered a final list.  Also, the following credit breakdowns are for use in Housing Selection only.  The College standards for class standing have not changed.

SENIORS - 84 or more credits earned

JUNIORS - 54 - 83.5 credits earned

SOPHOMORES - 24 - 53.5 credits earned

FRESHMEN - 0 - 23.5 credits earned
