Robert Anderson - IT/Criminal Justice

Despite economic challenge and record unemployment rates, Information Technology alumnus Robert Anderson '07 is thriving in his career.  Not only is he employed with one of the country's fastest growing companies, but he has been promoted three times since graduating from Curry.

Anderson works for Ektron, an international web solutions company based in New Hampshire, which makes software for creating and maintaining websites.  The software is geared toward the non-technical individual, and gives them the capability to create and manage their websites without the difficulty of using complicated code.

Anderson began as a solutions instructor and got to travel around the world, training dozens of users at a time on the software.  Anderson has since moved onto sales within the company.

"I love the traveling aspect of my job," he explained.  "My favorite place that Ektron sent me was the Grand Cayman Islands.  I flew there to help the folks at a local online newspaper use the software more efficiently."

Recently, Anderson worked on a project where Ektron helped NASDAQ integrate a social media component into their website, which lets investors interact with one another.

A New Hampshire native, Anderson originally chose Curry College because of the reputation of its Criminal Justice program.  But early on, his advisor recognized his talent and recommended he get involved in Information Technology as well, so he elected to pursue a double major.

Anderson was taking six classes each semester while completing an internship in the Alumni and Parent Relations Office, where he helped update alumni information using the campus database.

As heavy as his workload was, he still had the time to enjoy college life.

"Even though I was busy, I had a great time while I was at Curry.  I pretty much met all of my best friends here...friendships that will last my whole life."

He recently made a special trip back to campus for Curry's annual Career Discovery Week and shared his experiences as part of an Applied Technology department panel discussion.  He also met one-on-one with current students and shared a list of job openings at Ektron with some of the graduating seniors.

Anderson credits the IT program for giving him a foundation which he builds on every day at Ektron.  He also is thankful for the public speaking experience he acquired at Curry, which helps him speak in front of audiences of 50-100 clients on a daily basis.

Anderson now calls Londonderry, NH home and recently became a home owner.  Although he doesn't plan to leave Ektron anytime soon, Anderson would someday like to put his Criminal Justice degree to work for him.

"At some point I would like to explore the world of digital forensics.  The more technology becomes a part of our world, the more crime finds its way onto the Internet," he explained.  "I would love to help police use data retrieval to help fight identity theft and other related crimes."
