“I love that Curry has a shuttle to Boston. It's so convenient and it's a quick trip. Even on weekends we can go to places like Fenway Park and Faneuil Hall. It's awesome!”

John McCarthy - M.Ed.
John McCarthy '09 had worked in the financial world for almost 25 years when he decided to quit his job and enroll in the Curry College Master of Education Program.
"I had always wanted to be a teacher and to have a positive impact on children and decided that it was either now or never," says John, a father of two school-aged children. "I live on the South Shore and had heard positive things about Curry College. The fact that Curry has smaller classes and that the student population in the program tends to be older were the selling points for me."
Besides the smaller classes and older student population, another selling point for John was that the administrative staff seemed to be very helpful and eager to help him succeed.
"After many years of working in one industry, it is very frightening in some ways to change careers. One wonders if they will succeed in the new field and how overwhelmed they will be. At the same moment, it is a very exciting time. The supportive administrative staff at Curry College truly made the transaction easier for me."
Once enrolled in classes, John says that the professors in the M.Ed. program also provided invaluable assistance.
"Being brand new to the education field I have had to learn everything from scratch. My professors have been very helpful and are more than willing to share their real-life classrooms experiences. It's necessary to learn the theories, but actually learning technique is just as important."
"It appears to me that when I graduate I will have been exposed to most of the skills and knowledge necessary to be a great teacher. It will then be my turn to take that knowledge and utilize it for the benefit of myself and my students." Curry College has provided me a strong foundation on which to build, and I would strongly recommend Curry College to any career changer."
