Curry Alumni, Faculty Earn Emmy® Nominations; COM Major Wins Student Production Award

The Boston/New England chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, best known for the Emmy® Awards, has announced their nominations, and it includes several Curry alums and faculty members. In the student award competition, a Curry senior took home a Student Production Award!

Communication major Vanessa Rizzitano, Class of 2018, won the "Short Form, Non-Fiction" award for her story on former Curry College student-athlete Hector Majul, called "From Mexico to Curry College: To Play...Hockey!" Honorable mentions went to teams from Boston University, Champlain College, and Northeastern University. 

In the professional contest, Professor Roger Lyons and three Curry alumni received Boston/New England Emmy® nominations. Prof. Lyons is nominated in both the "Executive Producer" and "Director" categories for his work on the series pilot "Heroes Around Us," which aired on New TV. 

WHDH photographer Nick Sapienza '02 is nominated for his work covering the death of Aaron Hernandez, and photographer George Smith '06 is nominated for his role in WCVB's coverage of the Free Speech Rally in Boston.  Dominick Aielli '95, a photographer at NBC 10 in Boston, is nominated for his work with reporter Susan Tran.

The 41st Boston/New England Emmy® Awards Ceremony will take place in June.
