Painting in the Margins: Displacement and the Refugee Experience

February 28, 2012

7:00 p.m.

Thaer Abdallah is a Palestinian artist/human rights activist who grew up in Iraq. He left Iraq in 2005, leading a group of threatened Palestinian families to safety after their community in Baghdad suffered numerous kidnappings, torture and assassinations at the hands of various militias. He spent almost three years in refugee camps in Syria and Greece.

On February 28, 2012 the Curry College Fine and Applied Arts and Politics and History departments will co-sponsor, 'Painting in the Margins: Displacement and the Refugee Experience,'  a discussion with Abdallah, along with an exhibition of his paintings.  This event will take place in the Parents' Lounge at 7:00 p.m.

For more information on this event please contact Politics and History Professor Larry Hartenian or Fine Arts Professor Laurie Alpert.
