Glenn W. Schmidt '55 passed away on January 4, 2014, just two months shy of his 68th wedding anniversary. "How he loved Curry College!" writes his wife, Phyllis Schmidt, in a letter to the Alumni Office. After serving in the United States Navy for nine years, Glenn decided to make use of the GI Bill and get a college degree. He chose to attend Curry College, earning his Bachelor of Arts in Speech and Radio all while helping to raise his three children. Glenn enjoyed a very successful career as a television newscaster in Boston and Northern New England and also took great pleasure in staying involved with his alma mater. The Schmidt family spent many weekends visiting campus and enjoying events, especially sporting ones. Glenn founded and was president of the Friends of Curry Athletics (FOCA) where he put his advertising expertise to use, raising funds for a scoreboard on the then D. Forbes Will Athletic Field. It was the first of its kind for Curry College, making its debut during the 1978 season. Glenn's pride for Curry never diminished nor did his wife's. She cherishes the memories and still feels a strong connection to the Curry College community.
