Dr. Jayson Baker is an Assistant Professor in the Communication Department.  Dr. Baker teaches core communication and media literacy skills emphasizing critical analysis, writing, and research.  A core teaching and scholarly motto, "there are no pure representations," challenges students to take seriously representations of class, gender, race, sexuality, and ethnicity so that together we can examine privileged and marginalized social positions, and negotiate a deeper sense of our interconnected global citizenship.  Dr. Baker believes this is a central goal of the best liberal arts education.  His scholarship has been published by Oxford University Press, Subaltern Media, and in leading journals in cinema and global studies.  An article on globalization with attention to interethnic marriages in film will appear in Studies in the Humanities in 2016.
