Maureen O'Shea has served in the Division of Nursing since 2003. She has extensive nursing experience in a variety of clinical settings including Medical-Surgical, Intensive Care, and Emergency Department. She has been a Nurse Practitioner in long-term and sub-acute facilities in the Boston area. She is currently a Nurse Practitioner for the Palliative Care Service at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Particular areas of interest include effective communication practices, holistic health care concepts and ethical considerations, elder health wellness and palliative care issues, and advance care decisional support. Dr. O'Shea has received grant funding from the National Student Nurse Association for interdisciplinary support of peer-mentoring educational initiatives.
She is a charter member of the Epsilon Beta chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing. She is a member of the Massachusetts Coalition of Nurse Practitioners, the Hospice and Palliative Care Nurses Association, and The American Nurses Association.
She has served as nursing faculty in various capacities; as a Clinical Instructor; courses taught include Health Assessment, Advanced Health Assessment, Adult Health theory and course coordination of clinical experiences, Care of the Older Adult, and Senior Preceptorship experience. She teaches in both the undergraduate and graduate programs.
Dr. O'Shea values the opportunity to share in the development and education of future nurses.
