Academic Policies

Faculty are responsible for learning about and adhering to all academic policies. Some appear here; more are listed in the College catalog and in the AAUP Agreement. Others are available from department chairpersons and satellite campus directors as well as from such offices as Registrar (x 2348) and Academic Advising (x2194).

CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY

All classes are expected to meet for the entire length of all scheduled periods. Class cancellations require notification of both the Dean's office and the Department office, with no later than two hours notice in advance of the class.

CLASSROOM POLICIES

Please keep in mind, and remind students, of the following: No eating, drinking, or smoking in the classrooms. Clear bottled water may be taken into the classrooms.  Beepers and cell phones should be off during classroom time.

REGISTRAR INFORMATION

Registrar's Office provides valuable informaiton about grade submission and other acacemic policies.  Faculty are required to submit class lists, mid-term and final grades, and other forms to the appropriate office on time and in the proper format.

The Curry Web Information System (CWIS) provides access to all class lists, course evaluations, course enrollment data and other important data.  Midterm and final grades are submitted via the CWIS to the Registrar's Office.

Waitlisted students must submit an add slip signed by the course instructor and their advisor to the Registrar's Office to be registered in the course. This is the student's responsibility and must occur before the posted add/drop deadline. Please remind students of this.

OFFICE  HOURS

Office hours are required - at least four per week for full-time faculty and one hour per week for each course taught by part-time faculty.  Office hours should be listed on syllabi, posted on office doors, given to the Departmental Administrative Assistants, and held as listed.

EXAMS

No exams or quizzes of any kind be given during the last week of classes .  Final exams are encouraged, although not required if a presentation or final paper is deemed to be a more appropriate final assessment.  If given, final exams must occur at the time and date on the Final Exam Schedule (see CALENDARS).

Faculty are responsible for delivering and picking up student exams administered at the Assistive Technology Center (Milton) or other locations designated by campus directors for untimed or other specially administered exams.

TEXTBOOKS

Textbook orders are due to the Campus Bookstore by the end of October for Spring semester courses and mid-April for Fall semester courses.   Submissions can be made via e-mail, phone (xt 2322) or fax.

GRADES & RECORDKEEPING

It is imperative that faculty keep clear records relating to grades for each student and that these records be retained for safekeeping, in the event of questions or appeals.

Questions about legal accommodations for students with documented learning or other disabilities can be addressed by Dr. Tom Byrne, the college's Student Disability Officer at (617)333-2182.
