INTRODUCTION TO RANK AND REQUIREMENTS

(Please refer to the current Curry-AAUP Agreement for critical specifics, Article XI. It is available on the Faculty Drive in the “AAUP” folder or in hard copy from the AAUP)

PART-TIME FACULTY:   Part-time faculty usually begin at Curry at the rank of  Associate Lecturers.  After three semesters of teaching with a minimum of one fully enrolled course per semester, faculty are eligible to be promoted to Lecturer rank.  Lecturers are eligible to teach a maximum of nine (9) contact hours per semester.  At this rank, requirements, salary, and benefit options increase. Faculty members will receive information about the Curry-AAUP Agreement, instructions for dues payment, and a welcome from the AAUP President.

Faculty are eligible to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer in the fifth semester of teaching (with a minimum of one fully enrolled course each semester).  Faculty must complete all but one of the six semesters required for promotion by the end of the semester in which application for promotion is made.

Senior Lecturers are eligible to teach fewer than 24 contact hours or the equivalent per year, with no more than 12 contact hours in any semester during the traditional Academic Year (fall and spring semesters).  (See Curry-AAUP Agreement, Article XI).

FULL-TIME FACULTY:   Teach twelve contact hours per semester (twenty four (24) contact hours or the equivalent per traditional academic year).  Full-time faculty are eligible for membership in the AAUP union. As such they are considered "eligible unit members" for all benefits while expected to advise students and participate extensively in college meetings, committees, and other activities.
