Fine and Applied Arts
Congratulations to Janice Salvucci for her presentation entitled "Music in General Education: Multiple Arts Model for Engaged Learning" at the 2008 Super Regional Conference combining the Northeast Chapter and Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the College Music Society. CMS is a national organization of college and university music educators across all music disciplines--including performance, musicology, music education, and music in general education. The attendees expressed much interest in this presentation of active learning strategies and the integration of the arts in Curry's core curriculum Introduction to Fine Arts.
Nursing
Drs. Susan James, Elinor Nugent and Linda Caldwell received a Grant in the amount of $26,800 from the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education earlier this semester. The review committee for the grant was comprised of individuals highly knowledgeable on issues of nursing education, as well as authorities on the workforce development needs of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The selection process was very competitive with only 5 schools of nursing receiving Phase 2 funding.
The grant allows collaboration with a practice partner, Hebrew Rehabilitation Center/Senior Life in Roslindale, Ma, and two education partners, Quincy College and Cape Cod Community College. The discussion, analysis and collaboration with the partners will be used to revise curriculum of the RN-BS program at Curry College. Our goals are to eliminate duplication of content among programs and to provide a seamless transition for registered nurses from AD to BS and from BS to the Clinical Nurse Leader MSN program at Curry.
Initial discussion with the partners has resulted in preliminary identification of competencies that are present in the associate degree curriculum and the RN to BS program, as well as competencies that need to be developed.
This is an exciting opportunity for the Division of Nursing.
