Tuition Costs

What is the tuition price for the full 21-month Master of Education Program in Elementary Education or Special Education?

Curry College offers an attractive fixed tuition rate for the program. In addition, students are responsible for the cost of books. Curry College is committed to delivering high quality, affordable graduate education and does not charge additional fees for its graduate programs.

Practice Teaching

If I am working full time, how will I be able to complete my student teaching?

Consistent with State licensing requirements, all students are required to complete two fieldwork experiences. If a student is not currently working in a suitable educational setting, Curry's Field Placement Coordinator will arrange an appropriate placement. Students may have to alter their work schedule to accommodate the time commitment needed to meet the fieldwork requirement.

Will Curry help me find a school to complete my field work hours?

Yes, an M.Ed. Field Placement Coordinator will identify and oversee your field placement and work with you to identify a school setting that is conveniently located for you. Our school field placement sites are located throughout the greater Boston area, the South Shore, and the Cape.

If I am currently a teacher or paraprofessional, can I complete my field work at my current school?

Yes, in most cases, students who are currently working in a school setting can complete their fieldwork at their current school, although some flexibility on the part of the school and student will be required.

MA State Licensure Requirements

What are the MTEL tests?

MTEL is the Massachusetts Tests for Educator License that the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requires teacher candidates to pass in order to be awarded a teaching license. Curry requires students to pass the required MTEL examinations specific to their program concentration.

How can I prepare for the MTEL test?

To prepare for the MTEL tests, including the Communication and Literacy Test (CLST), the Foundations of Reading Test (FOR), and the General Curriculum Test (GC), consult the Massachusetts Department of Education (MDOE) website or the MTEL website for a listing of links to practice tests. You can also attend preparation workshops, access study guides and utilize support materials available at libraries and from other vendors.

Does Curry College offer support to prepare for the MTEL?

Yes, Curry offers preparation workshops for the Foundations of Reading and General Curriculum Math subtest at various times throughout the year at both the Milton and Plymouth campuses. Students can register for these workshops by calling 617-333-2345.

Are Curry College's M.Ed. programs state approved?

Yes, Curry's M.Ed. Programs in Elementary Education: Grades 1-6; Special Education: Moderate Disabilities PreK-8; and Reading Specialist: all levels are approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

What license will I have upon completion of Curry's program?

Upon completion of all degree and program requirements, Curry College will endorse you for initial licensure to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The initial license is valid for a period of five years. Most teaching candidates in a public school setting are hired with the initial license.

Program Information Details

How long will it take me to complete the program?

Students can complete the entire M.Ed. program in a total of four continuous semesters which amounts to 16 months.

How often do I attend classes?

Students enroll in three courses over a 15-week semester and attend classes one evening per week and one Saturday per month.

What is a cohort program and what benefits does this type of learning offer?

In a cohort program the same students completes their coursework together as a cohesive group. Cohort programs provide a supportive peer learning environment, a strong learning community, and lasting professional networking opportunities.

What is the course schedule of the MED cohort program?
