Post Master's Reading Certificate

Curry College is one of the first institutions in Massachusetts to offer a post master's certificate leading to initial licensure as a Reading Specialist. This program is for professionals who already hold a master's in an appropriate discipline.

Leverage Your Current Master's Degree

You can earn an initial Reading Specialist License by completing the reading courses and fieldwork required by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). You must hold a master's degree and license in another area and have taught for at least a year under that license prior to applying for the program.

One-year certificate program

You can complete all coursework and fieldwork in just three consecutive semesters.

Conduct fieldwork in your current school

You may be able to complete your reading fieldwork at your current school. If you are not currently teaching, we will place you in an appropriate setting.

Who should pursue this program?
The post-master's certificate is designed for experienced teachers who want to earn a reading specialist's license. Eligible teachers will already possess an earned Master's degree in a discipline relevant to education, and have taught for at least one year under that license prior to applying to the program. More experience is desirable.

Applicants should complete all application requirements and apply at least one month before the start date of the cohort to which they are applying. For more information, contact the Graduate Studies office at Curry College: 617-333-2243.

Meet John McCarthy '09

"The fact that Curry has smaller classes and that the student population in the program tends to be older were the selling points for me."
