Barbara Healey '11 - Master of Science in Nursing

Outcomes. It is the buzzword in healthcare these days. In Barbara Healey's case, it's the difference between life and death.

As a nurse manager in the urgent care department at a major Boston teaching hospital, Healey deals with patient outcomes on a daily basis. And she recognized the impact that continuing her education and expanding her knowledge could have on achieving positive, measurable outcomes.

After considering all of the MSN programs in the Boston area, she ultimately chose the MSN program at Curry College because of its unique focus on the Clinical Nurse Leader role.

"I picked Curry," said Healey, "because of the developing role of the clinical nurse leader, which is a new role in nursing and is unique in the area."

"My role as a nurse manager is to ensure that safe, timely patient care is administered by the nursing staff. The role of the Clinical Nurse Leader is evolving in healthcare... there will be many opportunities for nurses to work in that role to help measure outcomes."

Healey's decision to attend Curry was also influenced by Curry's strong reputation among nurses.

"I know many Curry nurses in the city of Boston; many have gone onto leadership positions in the field. The instructors are very knowledgeable, very prepared and clearly, high quality instructors."

When asked to describe her Curry College experience in one word, she doesn't even hesitate: "Outstanding."
