A special congratulation to Dr. Nancy Young. Dr. Young recently received her Ph. D. from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. Her dissertation is titled A MIRROR OF RECOGNITION: How the Empathetic Relationship Between Dusty Springfield and Her Not-Straight Fans Facilitates Their Identity Development.
Prof. Brian Duchaney's article "'If you should die before you wake...': Bart Simpson and the Genesis of Rebellion" has been included in the forthcoming book

Dr. Karrie Szatek has had a busy summer! First, Dr. Szatek was promoted by the College to full professor, a well deserved recognition. Additionally, she took part in several scholarly pursuits. Dr. Szatek presented her paper "Bird Folklore -- Shakespeare's and Hungary's" at the 14th International Conference on the Literature of Region & Nation in Pécs, Hungary. In addition, Dr. Szatek took part in the International Shakespeare Association's annual conference in July, 2012. The conference was hosted by Charles University in Prague, the Czech Republic. Her paper written for the ICS Seminar, Shakespeare and Early Modern Popular Culture was titled, "Early Modern Popular Culture and the Birds in Shakespeare's History Plays." This paper argued that birds in Henry VI, parts 1-3 and Richard III play a dual role; they exemplify actual nature, and they disclose both positive and negative human characteristics that factor thematically into this first tetralogy. In particular, Shakespeare addresses bird flight and its derivatives - fleeing, flying, and flew -- more times in the Henry VI plays and Richard III than in any of his other plays. Bird flight in these dramas coincides with human fear and cowardice, ambition and rivalry, familial love, and the failures of the nobility. Congratulations Dr. Szatek!
Congratulations to Dr. Karrie Szatek, Prof. Karen D'Amato and Prof. Nancy Young. Each received grants to develop course work in conjunction with the College's Writing Enhancment program in order to facilitate depth within student wrting abilities. The courses in development are ENG 3300: Shameless Women's Literature; ENG 2660: Frankenstein from Novel to Film; and ENG 2260: The Beatles' Lyrics as Poetry, respectively.
Dr. Gabrielle Regney presented "The Fall and Rise of Animals in Fiction" at the 2012 International Society for Anthrozoology Conference, held at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge, UK from July 11-13, 2012. In addition, Dr. Regney recently participated as a Faculty Center Fello, in a Curry-led workshop at the American Association of Colleges and Universities in New Orleans. The workshop, facilitated by Dean Horii and Dr. McDougal, was on the relationship between Curriculum Innovation Communities (CIC) and General Education requirements. Dr. Regney is the Facilitator of the Writing Across Curry CIC. Also, Dr. Regney presented "The Fall and Rise of Animals in Fiction" at the annual conference of the International Society for Anthrozoology, in Cambridge, UK, this summer.
Professor Andrew Horn has recently published, "Chikwakwa Remembered: Theatre and Politics in Zambia," by Michael Etherton and John Reed (Dublin, Ireland: Original Press, 2011). This study documents the work done by Andrew Horn, Michael Etherton and John Reed in theatre-for-community-development and political theatre at a crucial period of anti-apartheid activity in southern and central Africa, and the creation of the open-air Chikwakwa People's Theatre in Zambia's capital, Lusaka. (Published November 2011.)
Dr. Allan Hunter's newest book, "Spiritual Hunger: Integrating Ritual and Myth in Daily Life" has just been published by Findhorn Press (http://www.findhornpress.com/spirituality-18/spiritual-hunger-449.html). "Spiritual Hunger" is Dr. Hunter's eleventh book.

The Curry Arts Journal enlivens artistic expression at Curry in publishing an appealing, professional edition of student writing and artwork each year and in sponsoring workshops, readings, and coffeehouses that celebrate student voices each semester.
The Currier Times is Curry College's own student run, monthly print publication which is published 6 times per academic year and covers campus news, issues and events, as well as sports, arts and entertainment.
