A WORD
From the President

Bruce Weckworth

“Welcome Home” has a very special ring to it this fall as a record number of students arrived on campus. This year more than 1,600 traditional age undergraduate students are enrolled on campus while another 1,200 adult continuing education students and more than 200 graduates are enrolled on the main campus or our other campus sites in Plymouth and Worcester. Among our traditional students, more than 1,100 are residing on campus. Indeed, Curry College continues to grow in size and stature among the colleges of New England.

As you saw on the cover of this issue of the Curry magazine, “Welcome Home” resounded loudly for 170 junior and senior status students who now reside in Curry’s newest facility, the South Campus Residence Hall. This spectacular building, located on the south side of campus across from the Alumni Recreation Center, features spacious apartment style living with six students in each unit. This beautiful, contemporary building opened just six short months after breaking ground to rave reviews from students and staff alike.

Beyond welcoming new and returning students to campus, we had many opportunities to say “Welcome Home” to alums like Joe Kaminkow ’83 and Kim (Kruger) Kaminkow ’80 who returned to campus to make a significant gift to our radio station WMLN to provide the most state-of-the-art technology and significant enhancements to the facility itself. We also extended a “Welcome Home” to hundreds of alumni, parents, and friends of the college at various gatherings both off campus in places like southern Florida and on campus at special events such as the President’s Circle and Honorary Degree Dinner, Littlefield Lecture or Keighton Series, Hall of Fame Banquet, Homecoming, Family Weekend, and so much more.

Throughout this issue you will note a spirit, a sense of achievement, and a genuine belief in Curry in every dimension of our great college. Further, this belief in our mission and work on behalf of the students we are privileged to serve is rapidly developing a Culture of Philanthropy that will serve all us well.

All of us, together, will continue to do great things for our students, change people’s lives for the better through the gift of education, and “Welcome Home” students, alumni, parents, and friends for generations yet to be born.
