ADVANCEMENT MATTERS

Annual Fund Makes a Difference
Creating a Culture of Philanthropy is a primary goal of Curry's strategic plan and one that is being met with success. Trustees, alumni, parents, friends, faculty and staff alike responded to the annual fund in record numbers last year as, overall, Curry tripled its level of gift and pledge support for the future of the College.

Beginning in October, we will once again be asking the entire Curry Community to generously support the 2003-2004 annual fund. Overall support of the annual fund allows us to provide important unrestricted financial support for various areas of the college. Most often these include academic program or facility enhancements as well as scholarship or financial assistance for our students.

When you receive the annual appeal mailing or a phone call from one of our students, we know you will respond with a resounding and generous yes. Your help and participation in the annual fund is important and greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping us help our students.

Development Committee of
Board Spurs Record Success

A key factor in the record breaking fund raising success at Curry was the revitalization of the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees through the leadership of its Chairman, John W. Keith. Joined by Board of Trustee Chairman James M. Sullivan and Trustees Tim Corcoran, Fred Pezeshkan, and President Kenneth K. Quigley, the Development Committee secured six gifts of $250,000 each along with several others in the $100,000 and $50,000 range in the early stages of the Call to Action program. Committee members have also been very active in helping to recruit like-minded people to the new Chairmans' Club ($25,000 per year) and the President's Circle ($10,000 per year).

WAL-MART Gift Creates New
Outdoor Basketball Courts

Curry College Athletic Director, Steve Nelson, former New England Patriot and NFL Pro-Bowl player, captured the attention of the Wal-Mart organization resulting in a $35,000 gift from Wal-Mart that transformed some tired tennis courts into beautiful new outdoor basketball courts. New fencing, seating, water coolers and more are planned to enhance this new facility.

Curry Records First Federal Grant
for Assistive Technology Program

Curry and its President, Kenneth K. Quigley are now well known in the halls of the U. S. Congress and Senate in Washington, D.C. as the college, for the first time, secured a $175,000 grant in support of our Assistive Technology program. With the support of Senator Kennedy and Congressman Stephen Lynch, Curry expects to be positioned for further substantial success in securing additional grants for various programs at the college.

Alden Trust Supports Assistive Technology Program
Following the news of the federal grant in support of the Assistive Technology program at Curry, the College received word from the Alden Charitable Trust that they too would support this program in the amount of $30,000. While the Alden Trust has previously supported Curry, this grant is the largest received from Alden by Curry. The grant was specifically given for the development of "technologically smart classrooms" at Curry.
