Hall of Fame

Curry College honored five new inductees at the annual ceremony of the Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, April 25, 2003. The five honorees were Joe Cacciatore of Waltham, MA; Karen Callaghan of Hanover, MA; Glen Dempsey of East Bridgewater, MA; Michael Gorton of Quincy, MA; and Jennifer Hodge Blessing of S. Kingston, RI.

Joe Cacciatore '72 was nominated for his outstanding athletic accomplishments as a basketball player. Joe was a four-year letter winner for Men's Basketball (1969-1972) and served as team captain for two years. He was selected as the Team Most Valuable Player in 1970 and received an honorable mention in the all New England league. He was the first to achieve over 1000 points and ranks 7th on the Curry Colonel's All-Time Scoring List with 1,170 career points.

Karen Callaghan '96 was nominated for her outstanding athletic accomplishments in both soccer and basketball. Karen was a four-year letter winner for Basketball and Soccer (1992-1996). She served as basketball team captain her senior year. She ranks fifth on the Curry Colonels' All-Time Scoring List for basketball with 1,041 points and is in the top 10 for rebounding. She was chosen as a Commonwealth Coast Conference 1st-Team All Star for soccer in 1996 and 2nd-Team All Star for soccer in 1995 and basketball in 1996. She was selected Most Valuable Offensive Player for soccer in 1995 and 1996 and Curry Female Athlete of the Year in 1996.

Glen Dempsey '90 was nominated for his outstanding athletic accomplishments as a hockey player. Glen was a four-year letter winner for Men's Ice Hockey (1986-1990). He ranks 4th on the Curry Colonels' All-Time Scoring List with 152 career points (58 goals and 94 assists). He is a three-time ECAC North First-Team All-Star and was captain of the hockey team during his senior year.

Michael Gorton '95 was nominated for his outstanding athletic accomplishments as a tennis player. Michael was a four-year letter winner for Men's Tennis (1992-1995), playing singles and doubles. He served as team captain for three years and won the conference singles title in 1993 and 1995. He was twice selected Team Most Valuable Player. He ranks second on the Curry Colonels' All-Time List with 62 match wins.

Jennifer Hodge-Blessing '94 was nominated for her outstanding athletic accomplishments as a soccer player. Jennifer was a four-year letter winner for Women's Soccer (1990-1993). She served as the team captain for both her junior and senior year and was selected as the Team Most Valuable Player in 1993 and 1994. She was chosen as a Commonwealth Coast Conference 1st-Team All-Star in 1992 and 1993 was selected as the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament MVP in 1993.

The Curry College Athletic Hall of Fame was established to recognize the College's greatest athletes and those who have given extraordinary support to Curry's athletic program, bringing honor and distinction to Curry. Hall of Fame members include individuals who have demonstrated exceptional athletic ability, personal integrity, high standards of sportsmanship and good character; have participated in varsity intercollegiate athletics at Curry for at least two years; or those who have made a significant contribution to the Curry athletic program.

Alumni Hockey Game

For the third consecutive year, Curry hockey alumni returned for the annual alumni hockey game at the Max Ulin Rink in Milton. On March 8, 2003, thirty-four Curry graduates from 1979 through 2002 participated in the event, which raised close to $4,000 for the Colonels' hockey program. A post-game party was held at the Alumni Recreation Center (ARC) for the players and their families.
