A WORD

Kenneth K. Quigley, Jr. Celebrating 125 Years of Excellence in Education

As Curry College celebrates its 125th anniversary and we look to our future, we are proud to recognize the richness of our history and to acknowledge the adventures and challenges met by our founders Samuel S. Curry and Anna Baright Curry - and by later generations of students, faculty and staff, alumni, trustees and other good friends of our great College. Congratulations are due to so many people whose collective dreams, goals, hard work and commitment have ensured that the Curry legacy lives on...a tradition of understanding and respecting the uniqueness of each student, and recognition of the learning styles accompanying that.

The high point of our 125th anniversary year was marked with an Academic Convocation as the fall semester began. The College welcomed and honored descendants of Samuel S. and Anna Baright Curry, conferred an honorary doctorate on distinguished author Adam Hochschild, parent of Curry alum Gabriel Hochschild ’99, and presented the inaugural Presidential Medal of Excellence award to Trustee John W. Keith.

In the same entrepreneurial spirit shared by the Currys, our College continues to grow, set ambitious goals, and achieve those goals through our great service to our students and to society.

More students than ever are choosing Curry - the traditional undergraduate student body now totals over 1800 students, and we are at capacity in the residence halls with 1250 students living on campus this fall. As in all recent years, major facility improvements took place in every corner of the campus over the summer, including the completion and dedication of the Walter M. Katz Athletic field. Academic offerings and opportunities are enhanced continually through interdepartmental work within our internal community and collaboration with the external community such as the new Management Advisory Council.

From 1879 to 2004, people throughout the Curry Community have embraced and lived the mission of this great College for the benefit of our students. Regardless of your role or affiliation with Curry College, “Congratulations and Thank You” for being a part of our 125th Anniversary. Congratulations on what you have accomplished. Thank you for your efforts and for sharing in our mission and the important work we do in support of our students.

Together let us continue to share in our mutual support of Curry College; let us reaffirm our commitment to the students of today and for generations to come, and let us continue to change people’s lives for the better through the gift of Excellence in Education.
