Curry Descendant Offers Gift of
Family Heirloom for Historical Archive
As the Academic Convocation ceremony and celebration was drawing near conclusion, Anne Cooper Porter, Great Granddaughter of Anna Baright and Samuel Silas Curry, privately presented President Quigley with a gift to the College - a silver cup which had been passed down through four generations of the Curry family.
“I give this heirloom to Curry College as token of my appreciation and the appreciation of our family for all who have carried on the mission of Anna and Sam Curry with such a sincere passion as I have just had the pleasure to witness during the 125th Convocation events,” wrote Anne Cooper Porter of her gift.
“The silver inscribed cup was handed down from mother to daughter for four generations. I believe that this cup was a gift to the Currys from The School of Expression in celebration of the birth of Presnell Baright Curry, their first son. Presnell would have been my mother's uncle had he survived his birth. The cup came into my possession after my mother, Priscilla Dean Galassi Porter, died. Before that I believe my grandmother, Mabel Curry, the daughter of Samuel Silas Curry and Anna Baright Curry had the cup. The inscription on the cup reads For Presnell Baright Curry from
the School of Expression, November 27, 1890.
“I continue to be so moved by the good people I met and the good work being done at Curry College. With this cup I hope that the entire [historical] exhibit, created by Kresten Jesperson, will continue to grow along with Curry College itself.
“It's a wonder that as we look back at the intentions of Sam and Anna Curry and the beginnings of The School of Expression, we can right now feel the movement going forward with the mission of the Currys expressing itself in all facets of the college,. I believe, the future of Curry College will continue to shine brighter and brighter.
“I'm very proud to be a part of Curry College.” |
