Lombardo’s Hosts Spring Celebrations;

Vincent’s Nightclub Event Benefits Curry College

In Spring 2004, Lombardo’s in Randolph was the place to be for celebrating and supporting Curry College - past, present and future - in three special events.

Some 500 faculty and staff, alumni, trustees and friends came together at Lombardo’s for the Celebrate Curry party, an annual human resources event given special flair this year to kick of the 125th Anniversary year celebration. Students participated in the fancy and festive “Pardi Gras”, the annual Curry College semi- formal, also held at Lombardo’s.

A number of community members also chose to contribute to the College’s future, gathering among the 1,000 philanthropic guests at a black-tie gala for the 18th Anniversary Celebration of Vincent’s Nightclub. The celebration is a charity event hosted by the Lombardo family each year in support of local organizations. Attendees are asked to provide a $50 per person tax-deductible contribution to their choice of the featured charities, in return enjoying a spectacular evening of dining and dancing to the Grammy Award-winning disco band Tavares. The Lombardo family covered 100 percent of the evening’s expenses, which allowed all proceeds raised at the fundraiser to go directly to the featured charities. This year’s event generated record attendance and proceeds, raising $61,000 in total for the three designated beneficiaries - Curry College; the Boston Higashi School Inc. in Randolph, and St. Mary, Star of the Sea School in East Boston - with more than $20,000 designated to benefit Curry.

Curry College Awards Scholarship

to South Boston Boys & Girls Club Member Bree Toland

Curry College renewed a $20,000 scholarship this year ($5,000 per academic year for four years) to be awarded to a Club member of the South Boston Boys & Girls Club. Earlier this year, Bree Toland of South Boston, MA was selected as the recipient of the South Boston Boys & Girls Club Scholarship.

Bree Toland graduated from Mt. St. Joseph Academy with a 3.05 grade point average. Ms. Toland was selected for the South Boston Boys & Girls Club Scholarship based on her outstanding academic and community achievements. She enrolled at Curry this fall as a nursing major.

Curry College President Kenneth K. Quigley, Jr. said that Curry was pleased to be in a position to provide this scholarship for a worthy student in the South Boston Community. “We look forward to having Bree at Curry and know that she will make a difference as a member of our community, just as this scholarship will make a difference for her and her future,” remarked President Quigley.

Ronnie Millar, South Boston Boys & Girls Club Executive Director, noted, “This tremendous opportunity will truly make a difference. Curry College’s gift and continued support of the youth of South Boston is much appreciated. We feel very privileged and proud of our partnership with such an excellent institution as Curry College.”

Ms. Toland was recognized at an award ceremony in March at the South Boston Boys & Girls Clubhouse. Mr. Joseph P. Plunkett, a Board member at both Curry College and the South Boston Boys & Girls Club joined President Quigley in presenting the award.
