Amy (Shapiro) and Ed Kaznocha ’75 share their Curry couple story. According to Ed, "Amy and I first met in the Student Union in the fall of '73. Our next encounter was the next semester in Marvin Mendel's English class. I was sitting in the back of the room when Amy arrived. We exchanged a wave and a smile and Amy went to sit by the windows. In subsequent classes, we started talking before class and I would take my seat just before Marvin started his lecture.

Marvin used a seating plan for his classes and was meticulous about attendance. One day as he was taking attendance he said "Mr. Kaznocha, are you going to move next to Ms. Shapiro permanently?" I said, "OK," then got my stuff to move permnently next to her. We started dating soon after and, as Marvin would tell the story, "Their chairs got closer and closer with every class."

During our Junior year at Curry, we got engaged and graduated in May 1975. The next month, on June 9, 1975 Amy and I were married on campus just outside of the Drapkin Student Union building, and had a lovely reception in the Student Union where we first met.

Attending our wedding, besides family and friends, were some Curry faculty, Phyllis Renton, Joe Eckert, Marvin Mandel and the then Curry President, Mr. Hafer. We recall our years as students at Curry as a great time in our lives. As parents of two fine sons (Jeremy is pursuing his Master's Degree; Clifton his undergraduate degree), it is especially fun to look back at "the way we were" at their ages.”

The Kaznochas have lived in Gloucester, MA since 1978. Ed is a Labor Market Economist with the MA Div of Unemployment Assurance (recently renamed from Division of Employment and Training). Ed lectures occasionally around the state on the Massachusetts Labor Market. Amy is a Wellness Educator, working with a breakthrough concept in nutrition: www.juiceplus.com/+as26718. She is also an author (Dr. Oskar Adler: A Complete Man, 1875-1955).
