A WORD
from the President

Kenneth K. Quigley, Jr.

Like so many of our colleagues in higher education, Curry College is reaching out to be of assistance in light of the disruption, pain and suffering resulting from Hurricane Katrina. We have offered to provide accelerated admission, transfer and financial aid decisions to any student who desires to apply to continue their studies at Curry.

The Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts (AICUM) — the association of all private colleges in Massachusetts — is coordinating efforts among Higher Education Institutions on a statewide basis. I currently serve as the Board Chair of AICUM, and am working closely with Rich Doherty, the President of AICUM, to coordinate these efforts.

A member of our Public Safety Department activated via the National Guard and a faculty member trained as a volunteer by the Red Cross have been mobilized to the Gulf Coast area. The College is supporting these employees in their efforts. The Student Government Association (SGA) coordinated a relief fund and clothing drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross and Salvation Army which collected over $1,500 and 85 bags of clothing through the generosity of our community.

Curry College through its faculty, staff, students, alumni, trustees and friends is once again demonstrating that it is a caring and active community dedicated to changing people's lives for the better.

While enrollment at Curry College has more than doubled since 1996, a tight-knit community continues to thrive in our dynamic living and learning environment, which this year welcomed our largest ever class of first-year students. We've added new academic programs in Residential Property Management (RPM) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) to the curriculum, and enhanced North Campus with the new 886 Brush Hill Road Residence Hall.

These achievements could not have been made possible without the philanthropy of the many community members recognized in the Honor Roll of Donors featured in this edition of Curry Magazine. Thank you for your support. It is through our support of others, and support of each other, that we are able to live up to our ideals.

Realizing that this is a time when you will be asked to contribute to many causes and organizations, I trust that you will keep Curry on the list of organizations you support. Alumni and parent giving has made a significant difference at Curry in the past. Your continued assistance will help us carry on our Mission, making a difference in the lives of our students, our College, and society as a whole.
